Sonny Gray looked great in the first inning against the Yankees. He retired Ben Rice on four pitches to lead the inning off with a strikeout. He got Bellinger to ground out and Garcia Jr. to fly out.

The Yankees put no pressure on Gray in the first inning, only making him throw 11 pitches. Last night, they made Tolle work in the first inning, which benefited them later. So far, if Gray can keep the Yankees, who he nearly no-hit in June, it gives Boston a much better chance in this one.
