Trent Grisham began the bottom of the fifth inning with a single to right before Wells grounded into a forceout. Ryan McMahon struck out before Ben Rice singled to put runners on the corners with two outs.

That ended Sonny Gray's night, and they elected to go to Erik Miller, who gave it up last night. Same fate. Cody Bellinger with an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. The second night Miller came in with a 1-0 deficit, and the second night he gave up an RBI hit to make it a 2-0 deficit.

Luis Garcia Jr. then singled against the lefty, and Yankees third base coach Luis Rojas allowed Ben Rice, who is a slow runner, to turn home and attempt to score. He was gunned down at the plate on what could be a momentum-changing defensive play. Awful send by Rojas.

The most important thing for the Yankees is they got Gray out of the game before the end of the fifth inning. Yes, Boston has Garrett Crochet, Garret Whitlock, and Aroldis Champan available in their bullpen, but this should benefit the Yankees.
