Max Fried was a bit wild in the first inning, going to full counts on each of the first two batters he faced, including a 10-pitch at-bat to Adley Rutschman in the first inning. Both resulted in strikeouts looking.

He allowed a base hit to Contraras with two outs, but got Abreu to fly out, his third K of the first inning to end a scoreless first. 21 pitches in the frame.
